Tango was born above a busy beach bar called Tasty Waves on the South Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. His mom Tiki was already a local legend, she used to cross the front of the restaurant on a string of fairy lights while guests sipped cocktails below. Tango didn't fall far from the tree. Literally.
TANGO'S FAMILY
PISTACHIO — THE DAD (PROBABLY)
Named after the bright green algae in his fur. Lives next door at the café, shares the same bridges as Tiki, and was recently spotted touching noses with another sloth in the canopy. Scientists are fairly confident he's Tango's dad. Pistachio has not responded to requests for comment.
TENDER — THE BIG BROTHER
Two years of perfect data. Then one day Tender just got up, crossed the beach and disappeared into a private property nobody could enter. Collar went silent. Scientists knocked on doors. Nobody answered. Some say he invented Bitcoin. We can't confirm or deny.
TANGO — THE CHOSEN ONE
Born above a beach bar. GPS collared at 18 months. Part of the Eternal Sloth program, one of the first studies ever attempting to answer how long wild sloths actually live. Tango's story is just getting started.
THE FOUNDATION TANGO CALLS HOME
Founded in 2017, the Sloth Conservation Foundation tracks wild sloths in Costa Rica to understand how they're adapting to an urbanized world. They build canopy bridges, fund research, and fight to keep sloths where they belong — in the trees. Tango is part of their most ambitious project to date.
